I disagree. A slowdown would politicize AI development, damage US national security, and could induce a talent drain from some of America’s most innovative companies. In the meantime, a delay would accomplish very little.

The mere announcement of a voluntary pause would attract regulatory and congressional attention and perhaps investigations. And exactly what kind of proof would be necessary to allow AI progress to resume once again? The risk is that the delay could be extended indefinitely, especially once politicians jump in and polarize the issue.
