Businesses Eye Simpler EU Tax Rules as Global Tax Revisions Loom

The EU is poised to release a comprehensive plan to simplify tax rules this year, with hopes of clinching broad support among industry groups and member countries, and avoiding the pushback other major initiatives have experienced.

The European Commission promised in 2024 to cut reporting obligations by 25%, and 35% for small- and medium-sized enterprises. The effort comes as the EU is under pressure to boost its competitiveness, especially in new technologies such as semiconductors and artificial intelligence.
