Broadcom 5G WiFi Chips Slated for Release

WiFi networks are about to get much, much faster. Broadcom today announced what it says are the first System on a Chip devices to deliver 5G WiFi connectivity to home and small-business networks.

The new StrataGX BCM5301x and the BCM4708x series combine a high-performance processor, Gigabit Ethernet switch, GbE physical layer transceivers (PHYs), USB 3.0 and traffic accelerators all on a single chip designed for the new 802.11ac standard.

Broadcom is previewing the technology this week at Computex in Taipei. The products are slated for release in the second half of 2012.
