Boeing 737s Subject to New 5G Landing Restrictions by U.S. FAA

More than 2,400 older Boeing 737s are subject to 5G interference and may have to limit landings in some cases, the FAA says in an airworthiness directive.

  • The directive is a result of potential for new 5G service to interfere with devices known as radar altimeters on 737s
    • Models in directive are 737-100 through 737-900, except for Model 737-200 and -200C series airplanes equipped with a certain flight control system
  • Because AT&T and Verizon have agreed to limit placement of cell towers near airports and other measures, the impacts on operations will be minimal, FAA says
