Biometric Privacy Settlement of Nearly $1 Million OK’d by Judge

A retirement community chain was granted final approval of its nearly $1 million settlement resolving claims it violated the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act.

The $987,850 settlement fund to be created by defendant Lifespace Communities Inc. is fair, reasonable, and adequate, wrote Judge Manish Shah in a final approval order filed May `12 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

The West Des Moines, Iowa-based company was sued in state court in June before the case was removed to the Northern District of Illinois.
