Attorney General William Barr says a Federal Communications Commission plan to prohibit U.S. funding for Huawei Technologies Co. and ZTE Corp. telecommunications gear will help secure domestic communications networks from Chinese spying.
Barr threw his support behind Republican FCC Chairman Ajit Pai’s plan in a letter made public Nov. 14, more than a week before the agency votes on an order barring carriers from using Universal Service Fund subsidies to buy network equipment or services from the Chinese telecom giants.
