Apple Warned by German Regulator Over App Data Tool (1)

German’s Federal Cartel office told Apple that it’s concerned the tech company is illegally favoring its own apps against those of other service providers through the requirement for rivals to get additional data-handling consent from users.

  • Providers who offer services in Apple’s store are required to make their customers agree to extended use of their data; otherwise the providers can’t get access to data necessary for personalized advertising
  • If users buy Apple’s own apps, they don’t have to use the same tool to declare that consent
