Apple to Pay $113 Million to End IPhone Battery Claim (Correct)

Apple Inc. will pay $113 million to settle allegations by more than three dozen U.S. regulators that the company misled consumers about iPhone battery power and software updates that slowed the performance of the devices.

The settlement was reached with 33 states and the District of Columbia, according to statements Wednesday from several attorneys general. Regulators alleged Apple equipped two models of iPhones with batteries that tended to lose power and shut down, and then tried to manage the issue through updates that “throttled” the devices’ performance in order to prevent them from turning off.
