App Location Share Option Doesn’t Yield Jurisdiction

An option in a mobile messaging mobile device application that enables users to share their location does not generate the minimum contacts required for the developer to be sued for patent infringement in Virginia, where some of its 200–300 million customers reside, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia held Sept. 13 (Intercarrier Commc’ns LLC v. WhatsApp Inc., E.D. Va., 3:12-cv-00776-JAG-DJN, 9/13/13).
