AI Oversight Should Keep Up With Latest Models, GOP Senator Says

The US government should consider the possibility that artificial intelligence becomes so advanced that it can improve itself without human intervention, and agencies should factor that risk into any voluntary federal testing of cutting-edge models, a key Republican senator said in a letter to the Trump administration.

While expressing his broad support for an AI cybersecurity order issued by President Donald Trump earlier this week, Senator Jim Banks urged the administration to ensure government oversight keeps pace as the technology progresses. Banks said the order offered a blueprint for addressing other national security risks posed by AI beyond cyber.
