AI Contractors Eyeing Bigger Role Backed by Chips Bill Funds

Artificial intelligence-backed research, advanced computing, and cybersecurity are goals sprinkled throughout the new US competition law authorizing $280 billion to advance the country’s technological leadership globally.

The Bloomberg Government-defined procurement market for AI grew by 225% between fiscal years 2017 and 2021, with NASA and the Departments of Health and Human Services and Homeland Security the main civilian agency customers.

Government spending on AI is expected to total $1.4 billion for the full 2022 fiscal year, according to a Bloomberg Government analysis.
