AI Chip Controls Must Pass Congress, China Hawk Banks Urges

Congress must pass stricter US export controls to clamp down on Beijing’s access to advanced artificial intelligence chips, China hawk Sen. Jim Banks (R-Ind.) said Tuesday at the annual Hill and Valley Forum in Washington.

Banks, who sits on the Senate Banking Committee that oversees export controls, touted his bipartisan proposal known as the GAIN AI Act (S.3150), which aims to limit shipments of powerful AI chips from companies like Nvidia Corp. and Advanced Micro Devices Inc. to arms-embargoed countries, including China.
