Texas School District Appeals Dreadlocks Policy Injunction

An East Texas high school will ask the Fifth Circuit to topple a preliminary injunction, barring the school from enforcing its new male hair length policy, that was issued in favor of a Black student who wears his hair in dreadlocks.

Barbers Hill Independent School District filed notice Tuesday that it will appeal the Aug. 17 ruling by the Southern District of Texas. It blocked enforcement of the rule after finding the student, identified as K.B., will likely succeed on his sex discrimination, racial discrimination, and free speech claims.
