Health Centers Look to Funding Lifeline as Challenges Loom

A Biden administration budget proposal would provide a lifeline to the nation’s community health centers as they face the twin challenges of an expected drop in revenue accompanied by an influx of patients losing their Medicaid coverage.

The fiscal year 2024 budget request for the health center program of the Health Resources and Services Administration, the agency of the Department of Health and Human Services that aims to improve equitable health-care access for the nation’s highest-need communities, seeks a $1.3 billion increase in federal funding for community health centers from the current year to $7.1 billion.
