Google LLC failed to pause discovery in a case accusing it of systematically allowing ads by counterfeit textbook sellers until the US Supreme Court’s copyright ruling on internet service providers.
The justices’ ruling in Cox v. Sony may well impact Google’s liability for contributory copyright infringement, but not what constitutes relevant discovery material, the US District Court for the Southern District of New York said. Google can renew its motion at the close of discovery, Judge Jennifer L. Rochon said in her Friday opinion.
