A new Florida law aiming to clamp down on protests and discourage cuts to police budgets is unconstitutional for “chilling protected speech and criminalizing protest activity,” according to a federal lawsuit filed Tuesday.
The law signed last month by Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) targets Black protesters and their allies and already is curtailing activities by Black organizers in Florida, according to a statement by the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, ACLU of Florida and Community Justice Project.
