Advocates for LGBTQ+ Floridians struck a deal Monday with Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), ending litigation over a 2022 state education overhaul—dubbed the “Don’t Say Gay” law by critics—in a pact that limits applications of the law outside of classroom instruction.
The Parental Rights in Education Act, which limits classroom teaching about sexual orientation or gender identity, doesn’t apply to myriad situations where critics of the law said restrictions would encroach upon free speech rights and rights of families and teachers, the deal says.
