Ex-Cop Chauvin to Be Sentenced June 16 For Floyd’s Murder (1)

Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer who was found guilty of killing George Floyd when he knelt on his neck for more than nine minutes, will be sentenced on June 16, according to the court.

Chauvin was convicted April 20 in the death of Floyd, a 46-year-old Black man accused of passing a counterfeit bill at a convenience store. Chauvin was found guilty on all counts, including second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and manslaughter.

Under Minnesota law he faces up to four decades in prison, although he may get less time under state sentencing guidelines. The second-degree murder charge carries ...
