Asurion Loses Bid to Exit Cancer Discrimination Employment Case

A technology repair company lost its motion dismiss allegations it fired a cancer patient a week into the job as the result of disability discrimination.

Matthew Doherty told his supervisor on his second day as a retail store lead that he needed to go to a doctor’s appointment. He alleges that after his Asurion UBIF Franchise LLC area manager found out he had cancer, he was dismissed, ostensibly for failing to complete his I-9 employment eligibility form, even though the company had ample documentation he could work in the US.
