Securities Class Actions Stay High for Third Straight Year (1)

Investors filed more than 400 class actions based on federal securities law for the third year in a row in 2019, according to two new reports.

The surge started in 2017 as investor suits objecting to mergers shifted from state to federal courts. But investors filed around two dozen fewer of those suits in 2019, even as other securities filings—including against cannabis firms—increased, the reports tracking yearly trends said.
