SEC Must Pay $1.8 Million in Fees After Crypto Case Sanctions

The Securities and Exchange Commission must pay over $1.8 million to cover legal costs incurred by crypto platform DEBT Box and other parties after a judge found the regulator abused its authority in the case.

Judge Robert Shelby in the US District Court for the District of Utah largely granted the attorneys’ fees and costs requested by various parties in a Tuesday order. Shelby previously sanctioned the regulator for “gross abuse of power” in the case, including false statements made by SEC lawyers.
