Importers should be transparent with investors about how they’re treating tariff refunds in financial reports as businesses seek paybacks from the Trump administration, an SEC official said Thursday.

Ford Motor Co. and Tesla Inc. are among the publicly traded companies that have referenced the refunds in their first-quarter reports after the Supreme Court ruled that President Donald Trump could not impose tariffs on imports under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act.
