Paul Hastings LLP was cleared to serve as trustee’s counsel in the contentious bankruptcy case for Guo Wengui, overcoming the exiled Chinese billionaire’s arguments that the firm had disqualifying conflicts of interest.
Guo’s arguments that Paul Hastings can’t serve as a disinterested steward of his bankruptcy estate are “unpersuasive” and part of a pattern of shifting approaches to his Chapter 11 case, Judge Julie A. Manning of the US Bankruptcy Court for the District of Connecticut said in a hearing Monday in which she approved the firm’s application for employment.
