New CFTC `Lab’ to Promote Financial Technology Innovation

The CFTC is launching a new effort to foster financial technology innovation designed to help derivatives markets be more competitive and digital, Acting Chairman J. Christopher Giancarlo said May 17.

The new LabCFTC will work out of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission’s New York office and will be the focal point for encouraging fintech progress and competition, Giancarlo said in remarks prepared for delivery at the New York Stock Exchange. The initiative was approved by Giancarlo and Commissioner Sharon Bowen, the agency’s only two members.
