McHenry to Take Top GOP Spot on House Financial Services Panel

Rep. Patrick McHenry will lead the House Financial Services Committee’s Republicans in the next Congress, the North Carolina congressman’s office said Nov. 30.

McHenry, the committee’s vice chairman, was next in line to serve as the panel’s top Republican. Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas), the current panel chairman, is retiring.

The incoming ranking member’s Democratic counterpart likely will be Rep. Maxine Waters of California, who is expected to become chairman under a Democrat-controlled House in the next Congress.

McHenry’s priorities of cryptocurrency and financial technology regulation could be one area for potential bipartisanship on the committee.
