Jefferies, Stifel Queried on Tariff Refund Rights by Senator

Senator Ron Wyden, the top Democrat on the Senate finance panel, writes to Jefferies Financial Group, Oppenheimer & Co., and Stifel Financial Corp. about their purchases of the rights to tariff refunds, according to an emailed statement from his office.

• Wyden says he is conducting oversight to ensure small businesses aren’t harmed by “opaque deals, aggressive solicitation, or avoidable administrative barriers”
• Wyden seeks a response by May 21 on questions about the tariff refund rights, soliciting materials and any communications with the US government about the mechanics of tariff refunds
