HP Investor Suit Over Sales Practices Survives Dismissal Bid

HP Inc. lost an attempt to escape an investor lawsuit accusing the company of hiding an effort to boost sales of printing supplies.

Maryland Electrical Industry Pension Fund alleges HP knew the printing supplies business was struggling and created a scheme to help reach revenue and earnings targets, artificially inflating its stock price.

Judge Jeffrey White in the US District Court for the Northern District of California allowed a securities fraud claim based on the alleged scheme to go forward against HP. Maryland Electrical also adequately alleged certain statements from HP and its executives were misleading, White said.
