Heartland Sues Ex-CEO’s Girlfriend for Trading on His Tips

Heartland Payment Systems LLC is suing its former CEO’s girlfriend for making insider trades based on tips he passed on about an upcoming merger.

Kathie Hanratty allegedly bought Heartland stock using funds from boyfriend and then-Heartland CEO Robert O. Carr after he tipped her off about the company’s upcoming merger with Global Payment Inc., according to an Oct. 31 complaint. Hanratty agreed to settle Securities and Exchange Commission insider trading allegations Oct. 5.
