Ex-Consultant Gets Time Served For Insider Trading Guilty Plea

A former consultant Feb. 4 was sentenced to time served and a year of supervised release for his role in a massive insider trading scheme, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York Preet Bharara announced (United States v. Motey, S.D.N.Y., 10-01249).

According to prosecutors, Karl Motey, who pleaded guilty to insider trading charges in 2010, passed tips about Marvell Technology Group to several individuals, including president and founder of Whitman Capital Doug Whitman. Whitman was recently sentenced to two years for his alleged role in the trading ring (18 DER EE-8, 1/28/13).
