A former Celadon Group Inc. chief operating officer accused of securities fraud shouldn’t be allowed to leave the country for a birthday celebration in the middle of a pandemic, prosecutors told a federal district judge in Indiana.
William Eric Meek, who allegedly defrauded the trucking company’s shareholders, sought court permission to travel to Playa Del Carmen, Mexico for a 40th birthday resort stay paid for just days before his 2019 arrest. But a luxury birthday trip doesn’t present a “compelling need” for international travel, prosecutors responded Wednesday in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana.
