Equifax’s $149 Million Data Breach Settlement OK’d (Corrected)

Equifax Inc. received preliminary approval from the Northern District of Georgia of a proposed $149 million settlement of a securities class action stemming from the massive 2017 data breach that exposed the personal information of more than 143 million Americans.

A class of investors that bought Equifax securities in 2016 and 2017 sued the credit reporting agency and corporate officers alleging they made false or misleading statements and omissions about the breach that artificially inflated its stock, which deflated after the breach was revealed.

The settlement class includes all persons and entities who acquired Equifax stock between Feb. 25, 2016, ...
