Crypto Founder Loses SEC Fraud Fight Thanks to False Filings

Blockvest LLC’s founder lost his fight with the SEC over operating an unregistered coin offering after a California federal district judge determined he’d willfully deceived the court and corrupted the judicial process.

Reginald Buddy Ringgold III filed declarations containing false statements to keep the Securities and Exchange Commission from obtaining a preliminary injunction against him and his cryptocurrency firm. A magistrate judge recommended granting the agency’s terminating sanctions request, and Judge Gonzalo P. Curiel of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California adopted the recommendation May 29, and will enter default judgment in the agency’s favor.
