Compass Minerals’ $48 Million Investor Accord Gets Court Sendoff

Compass Minerals International Inc.‘s $48 million class settlement garnered a federal judge’s final blessing to resolve allegations it misled investors about the costs and abilities of its salt mining upgrade.

Lead counsel will get more than $11.3 million, about 24% of the total, in attorneys’ fees and $368,527 in litigation expenses, Judge Eric F. Melgren said. The US District Court for the District of Kansas judge awarded the retirement and welfare funds leading the lawsuit $10,000 each, asking the case to be closed Thursday.
