CME Group Inc. plans to introduce the first physically delivered liquefied natural gas futures contract as global supply of the super-chilled fuel surges.
The new U.S. LNG Export futures contract will be available for trading Oct. 14 pending regulatory review, CME said Sept. 4 in a statement. Buyers will take delivery at Cheniere Energy Inc.’s Sabine Pass facility in Louisiana. Freeport LNG Development LP’s terminal in Texas and other delivery points will be added later.
Though LNG prices have historically been linked to Brent crude oil, buyers are seeking new ways to structure deals as competition among suppliers grows. More ...
