The Commodity Futures Trading Commission Feb. 21 sued New York Mercantile Exchange Inc., owned by CME Group Inc., and two former Nymex employees over alleged repeated disclosures of confidential information about customer trades (CFTC v. Byrnes).
In a statement, CME Group said it was disappointed in the CFTC action because the allegations had been handled internally and no customers lost money. It vowed to fight the charges.
According to the CFTC’s complaint, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, the individuals—William Byrnes and Christopher Curtin—worked on the CME ClearPort Facilitation Desk.
