CFTC Seeks Court’s Okay to Settle Kalshi Political Bets Case (1)

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission has asked a court for permission to settle its legal fight with Kalshi Inc. over allowing Americans to bet on the outcome of elections.

The agency didn’t expand on the reason for possibly dismissing the case, according to a filing submitted Monday to the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.

If ultimately approved, the settlement would all but ensure growth in the once-controversial field of political prediction markets, which exploded in popularity during the 2024 US presidential elections.
