CFTC Eyes Stablecoin, Spot Crypto Exchange Items Post-Shutdown

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission is ready to work post-shutdown on digital asset agenda items it intends to complete before year’s end, plus plans to staff up to handle an “expanded mission,” acting Chairman Caroline Pham said.

Speaking Wednesday at the Philadelphia Federal Reserve Bank’s Ninth Annual Fintech Conference, Pham touted her background in cryptocurrency working at the CFTC and Citigroup Inc. and outlined the regulator’s priorities to enable collateral management with stablecoins, plans for spot crypto products on designated contract markets overseen by the agency, and some non-crypto objectives to close out the year.
