CFTC Charges Former Natural Gas Trader With $100 Million Fraud

David Smothermon, based in Houston, is being charged with defrauding the unnamed commodities-trading company he worked with as president and head natural gas trader, causing more than $100 million in realized losses, CFTC says in a statement.

CFTC filed a federal civil enforcement action Thursday alleging trader inflated the value of the trading book to conceal mounting losses

Smothermon appeared in a Google search as former employee of Trammo AG

Representatives of Trammo didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment; Smothermon couldn’t immediately be reached at a listed phone number
