American Express Must Face Proxy Vote on Abortion Risk, SEC Says

American Express Co. investors must have the opportunity to vote on a shareholder proposal seeking information about abortion privacy risks, the Securities and Exchange Commission said.

In a letter published on its website Wednesday, the SEC rejected American Express’s request to nix the proposal, which was filed by ESG asset manager Change Finance. The resolution seeks a public report detailing the potential risks and costs that American Express would incur in fulfilling law enforcement requests concerning abortions.
