Alphabet Wins Dismissal of Shareholder Suit Over Google Ad Tech

A federal judge dismissed a lawsuit alleging Alphabet Inc. misled shareholders about Google’s online advertising technology and user privacy.

Investors haven’t plausibly alleged that Google, which is defending itself against Justice Department claims of a monopoly in online advertising technology, knew statements it made to Congress were false, Judge Rita Lin of the US District Court for the Northern District of California said.

Other statements touting how Google’s ad tech products help advertisers and publishers, as well as its commitment to user privacy, are puffery and can’t support a securities fraud claim, Lin said.
