Universal Health Again Found Liable for Patient Attacks on Staff

A Colorado mental health hospital owned by Universal Health Services Inc. endangered employees by failing to adequately protect them from patient attacks, according to a federal administrative law judge.

Colorado Springs, Colo.-based Cedar Springs Hospital Inc. was cited by the US Occupational Safety and Health Administration in May 2020 after an inspection found cases of multiple assaults on nurses and other caregivers, the ALJ said in Wednesday’s decision. The inspection followed a complaint by workers about conditions there.

Cedar Springs appealed the citations and $15,422 proposed fine to the independent US Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission in 2020. ...
