Federal workplace safety inspections for fiscal year 2019 are on track to match annual inspection totals for recent years, an OSHA official said Sept. 11.
That’s despite a general decline since 2014 in the number of federal inspectors checking on the safety of workers.
As of the end of July, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration had conducted 24,256 inspections, said Patrick Kapust, deputy director of the agency’s enforcement division. Fiscal 2019 ends Sept. 30.
The number of worksite safety checks puts the agency in line with the past three fiscal years when the agency averaged about 32,000 inspections annually. ...
