Pilgrim’s Pride Blamed for Spouses’ Death by Covid-19 in Lawsuit

Pilgrim’s Pride Corp. has been sued by an employee claiming she contracted Covid-19 while working for the meatpacker’s Mt. Pleasant, Texas, plant and transmitted the virus to her home-bound husband, leading to his death.

The wrongful death complaint, filed Wednesday at the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, alleges that Pilgrim’s Pride, its corporate parent JBS USA Holdings Inc., and a business hired to help the meatpacker protect workers from infection fraudulently and intentionally misrepresented the extent of a Covid-19 outbreak at the facility, leading to the deaths last year of Sybil Elijah’s husband David, as ...
