Otis Elevator Faces $250,000 Federal Safety Fine for Death

Otis Elevator Co. faces a $242,699 federal safety fine after the death of a worker in Needham, Mass., according to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

The 52-year-old Otis employee was performing maintenance work at an office building housing TripAdvisor Inc.’s headquarters during the morning of Sept. 3 when the accident occurred. TripAdvisor wasn’t cited.

Otis, a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp., didn’t respond to a request to discuss whether the company would contest the citations.
