OSHA has overhauled its Severe Violator Enforcement Program that targets employers with multiple willful and repeat violations.
The changes announced Thursday widen the scope of the program to include all industries as well as any employer with multiple repeat and willful violations of any US Occupational Safety and Health Administration standard. The new policy didn’t go through a public comment period, as is the practice for most changes to how OSHA enforces rules.
Previously, the 12-year-old program primarily was limited to industries OSHA considered to be especially dangerous, such as construction, oil and gas refining, and mail delivery.
