OSHA’s Rebooted Drone Inspection Policy Nearing Takeoff

New instructions for how federal workplace safety inspectors can use small drones for investigations are “very close” to being issued, OSHA Construction Director Scott Ketcham told an industry conference.

The drone directive is among several construction-related guidance documents and rulemakings the Occupational Safety and Health Administration is preparing, Ketcham said Friday during a virtual meeting of the American Bar Association’s Occupational Safety and Health Committee.

The other projects include a rule clarifying that personal protective equipment issued to women must fit as well as gear used by their male counterparts, and new guidance on inspecting excavation and trenching sites.
