OSHA Sees `No Excuse’ for Violations Found at Alfalfa Company in Nebraska

ST. LOUIS—A Nebraska alfalfa producer cited for exposing workers to inadvertent machinery startups and other safety hazards and faces $120,600 in proposed penalties, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration said Sept. 30.

The company, Consolidated Blenders Inc., doing business as Shoftstall Alfalfa, was cited for one alleged willful and 24 alleged serious violations of the Occupational Safety and Health Act after OSHA conducted an inspection in March under a local-emphasis program.

The “High Hazard Workplaces Without an OSHA Inspection Since 1996” program targets companies with at least 11 employees that have not been inspected since 1996.
