OSHA Fines Texas Countertop Manufacturer $319,000

A Texas countertop manufacturer is facing $318,687 in proposed fines by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, allegedly for exposing employees to machine hazards and falsifying training records.

OSHA announced that its inspectors found that Tyler, Texas-based Berry Marble Co. Inc., doing business as U.S. Granite Inc., failed to remove damaged lifting slings from service, train workers in lockout/tagout procedures, review lockout/tagout procedures, complete a hazard assessment, and provide employees with adequate hand protection.

The company was fined for similar violations in May 2015, according to a news release from OSHA’s Dallas area office.
