An upstate New York shale quarry contractor agreed to pay $360,000 in penalties, settling a Mine Safety and Health Administration probe into a November 2012 worker death.
North American Quarry & Construction Services LLC, based in Catskill, N.Y., also agreed in an April 10 settlement to accept the agency’s findings of three flagrant safety violations and one high negligence violation following an investigation into the death of a rock driller at the Mount Marion Pit and Mill, a common shale quarry in Saugerties, N.Y.
