American Coal Co. will pay a $112,782 fine, down from the nearly $344,000 originally proposed, to settle with the Labor Department allegations of safety violations from 2007.
The Federal Mine Safety and Health Review Commission approved the settlement June 15.
The Mine Safety and Health Administration cited the company in 2007 for violations at its Galatia Mine in Galatia, Ill., involving loose coal and float coal dust accumulations on the conveyor system used to move the fossil fuel.
American Coal is a subsidiary of Murray Energy Corp.
